Title: The Brits - Laax 2008
Date: 12/05/2008
The week of 29 March to 5 April saw the McNab Junior Team present
themselves at the Brits in Laax. I was there to see the team
through the week and make sure they were all in the best of form
for the British championships. As usual the team did not
dissappoint and made it another great success with the McNab junior
team riding off with a total of 14 medals and numerous national
snowboard titles covering all disciplines.
The first days event was Boarder X with Cody Hierons winning gold and setting a record of winning this title 3 years in a row, Samantha Rogers and Katie Ormerod both won silver. The second dyas event was the Big Air where Samantha Rogers was the talk of the Brits pulling out a massive front flip truck driver to win Gold in her age group and second overall in the UK. Katie Ormerod won gold with Ollie Jackson and Henry Shackleton both winning silver.
The third day was crazy weather with whiteout conditions and very strong winds for the Halfpipe event, all the guys kept their cool and got down the runs they had been practicing, Katie Ormerod taking gold in her age group and Samantha Rogers taking silver. Cody Hierons took silver too, throwiing down alley oop mctwists which he only learnt the day before.
The Slopestyle was postponed a day due to all the snow that was coming down but nobody was complaining it was a thigh deep powder day. So on the last day of the week it was slopestyle with over a 120 riders competing but the McNab team kept the winning run going with Katie Ormerod taking gold, samantha and ollie silver and cody a bronze.
Here at McNab snowsports we would like to give a massive thanks to all the team for their efforts over this past year A big thanks to Dave (the double backflip) Seeley for all his help in the coaching of the camps and also to all the other coaches who give up their time to help. A big thanks to the team sponsors, Helly Hansen, True Snowboards and 32 boots for their continued support.
Hope to see everyone in Les Deux Alpes for our summer camps where we will be making the team selection for 2008/2009. Contact mel at the office to book.
