Title: News from Greenland

Date: 30/03/2008

Neil, Jonny and the team are all well and enjoying the Greenland Expedition after a bit of a dodgy start.

Firstly McNab regular Neil Harper managed to injure himself two days before the trip, during work!!! I'm sure Neil would feel a lot better about missing the expedition if the injury had occured during one of his regular kite-boarding trips, but there you go.

Then Damian Banwell, who has travelled from Japan for the trip arrived in Iceland minus his luggage. On any other trip, this would not be a big deal, but with everything he needs to get by for 2 weeks, sitting on a runway in Tokyo and the fact that there is a flight from Iceland to Greenland every 3 days, then this could have meant the end of the journey for Damian. With one of his 2 bags arriving just a few hours before the flight was due to leave, the team pulled together and between them decided they could help kit him out for the expedition. So it was off to the airport and on to Greenland. A little while into the flight, the plane made an about turn to Iceland as it had an electrical fault - not what you want to hear during a flight. But luckily when they landed they were met by the remainder of Damians luggage and a new plane.

After the dog-sled journey out to set up their base camp the team had to sit out a couple of storms from the comfort of their tents, but things then settled down. Neil said the weather is now perfect and the views are amazing, also "every night we see the most amazing northern lights display, it's like the sky is dancing, pretty spooky really".

Neil McNab is back in Chamonix on Friday, so I'm sure he'll have a lot more detail to fill in for you about the trip. Then it's a quick turnaround and off to Kamchatka.

Bye,
Mel
