Title: Chamonix to Nice - Day 2
Date: 20/09/2009
Great day today, felt loads better after yesterdays shock to the system. We rode from the hotel in St Foy straight up to Val d'Isere andon through to the col du Iseran at 2770m a big old climb of about 40km. I managed to pace myself better in the morning and rode up the first col with Andy, very atmospheric a beautiful morning but cold and windy by the top. A great descent followed where we hit 75kmh and nearly also hit a Marmot a herd of goats and 2 sheep. We ate inthe beautiful village of Bonneville sur Arc before headingon through a rain storm and dark storm laden skies to hot the second big climb of the day up to the Col du Senis above the Italien town of Susa. A steep relentless mm climb, this time I stretched the legs out a little and after staring off late worked my way up from group to group to finish with the front group at the top, tired but not cooked!
An amazing 22km descent then leads down to Susa, one of the best descents in the Alps by all accounts and it definitely didn't dissapoint, Amazing!
A great day today and don't feel half as wasted as I did last night although at 108km today was the shortest dayof the trip!
Tomorrow is the big test. 3 huge climbs await us tomorrow as wehead back into up and over the Alps over Montgenevre, the Izoard (a classic Tour de France climb) and finally up to the col du varsity above the ski resort of vars where I did my first ever seaon working as Ski instructor in the local french ski school.
So tomorrow, the big test and as I sit here writing this and my legs slowly start to seize up it's starting to seem like a harder and harder prospect.
We shall see!
Neil.
