Title: Snow in Chamonix!
Date: 06/10/2008
It was dumping with snow here in Chamonix at the weekend, big snow
flakes like a proper winter snowfall! On Saturday we had a good
10cm in the garden here in Les Houches and another 50cm at
3200m.
Winter has come early to Chamonix!
With all the worries of global warming and the glaciers melting this is great news for the mountains. This summer has been quite mild with only a short hot period and lots of snow up high which is great for the Glaciers.
The more snow up high in the zone of 'eternal snow' where the glaciers develop the better. Here at around 3200m, the glaciers are formed by deep heavy snowfalls forming new layers which are over time compressed into glacier ice. If in the summer the conditions are warm these new top layers from the winter melt out and so no new ice is formed and the Glacier doesn't develop. For the past 2 years the summers have brought us snow to 3000m right into July, August has been hot but mixed with some snow up high and then from early September the Snow has gradually descended once again to 3000m and below!
Whilst the amount of snowfall we're having might not be sufficient to start the another ice age it is great news for the Mountains and the Glaciers and bodes well for our Pre season 'Tech Snowboard clinic' and 'Junior Development Camp' both now to be staged in Les Duex Alpes.
December provided us with some of the best conditions of an epic season last year so don't rule out the Autumn and early Winter months when booking your slide time!

Other news - We've added some new Ski courses 'Off-piste Performance Ski clinics' and 'Technical performance Ski clinics' (and will be adding details for our new 'Backcountry Intro Ski course' running 31st Jan to 7th Feb). These will be running at the same time as our Snowboard courses so if you are friends that Ski and Snowboard you can enjoy the same week with our 'different rides, same vibes' theme.
Off Piste Performance Ski clinic get busy at Le Tour.
Also - After a few years off we're bringing back the Winter 'Kommunity Camps' which, like our 'Kommunity Summer Camps', will also be running in Les Deux Alpes.
British Olympian Dan Wakeham at last years Kommunity summer session.
We already have a lot of bookings for next years 'Kommunity Summer Camps' which, as part of our 'different rides, same vibes' theme, are open to Skiers as well as Snowboarders.
And finally - Our ever popular 'Voyager BC' courses this year to be hosted in Andermatt, Zermatt and La Grave are now on line and have limited spaces available so check them out and reserve your place if you want to join us and explore some of the amazing terrain that these 'Freeride hotspots' have to offer!
