Voyager BC - La Grave

Our Popular BC Freeride course once again locates to the French Freeride mecca of La Grave!
La Grave is world renown for being a place for the serious Freerider.

With very few pistes to speak of but a massive area for riding on a deep powder day  there are few resorts that can rival La Grave for big descents and endless fresh tracks. Even within the boudaries of the 'resort' there are countless famous 'extreme' descents, steep couloirs, glacier runs and wide open powder fields. Outside the boundaries the list continues and just goes on and on.

The surounding big ski areas of Les Deux Alpes, Alpes Duez, Serre Chevallier and MontGenevre add substantially to the flavor of this week as does the exceptional Col du Lauteret (hiking only but well worth every step!).

We ran our first Voyager BC course in La Grave in 2006. Our first descent of the week took us from 3500m starting out on the Glacier de la Girose, straight off the lift and down in to the valley via 2 abseils and a massive steep couloir to 1300m making a massive descent of 2200m!

Being quite central to many big ski areas there are often a variety of conditions to choose from around La Grave. During the same week we enjoyed deep fresh snow in Montegenevre, Cold North facing powder at the Col du Lauteret and spring corn in Les Deuz Alpes.

In one week we barely scratched the surface of what this whole area has to offer and so in short it was only a matter of time before La Grave would appear on our calendar and we would have to venture back down there for a little more exploring!

Our accommodation is set right in the heart of La Grave in a pleasant and relaxed hotel above the villages main bar and a short walk from the lift.

La Grave is a small village set in a deep steep sided valley with views looking out onto the impressive peaks of La Meije and Le Rateau that tower over the ski area.

Be prepared to push your limits both up and down the mountain, for those with the need this is a great trip for the dedicated Backcountry Freerider offering almost unlimited potential.

Please note mandatory avalanche safety and backcountry equipment but must be ordered prior to your Voyager course as needed.
