My Search for the 'Perfect Descent'

When I first started to Ski and then Snowboard it was the incredible feeling of flowing down the mountain in smooth but powerful arcs that initially grabbed me and kept me coming back. I couldn’t quite believe how good it felt carving down the mountain, flowing with the terrain, feeling the forces of each turn powering through me as I challenged myself to push each descent a little more, ride a little faster, make it a little steeper and a little more demanding always in pursuit of increasing and controlling that incredible feeling.

I’d be out there from morning until night always searching for that little bit more, pushing myself and exploring the limits of my ability and technique. Moment by moment I’d progress and my search would continue. In effect this was to be the start of my ongoing search for the ‘perfect descent’

My initial forays into the World of Snowsports took place near enough 25 years ago, at that time I could never have known what a major part of my life Skiing and Snowboarding would become and where the search for that ‘perfect descent’ would lead me.

Today, after some 25 years of full time sliding, Winter, Summer and Autumn I still find myself drawn onwards by that same feeling that gripped me all that time ago. The feeling of flowing with the mountain, exploring its terrain and the challenges it provides. The feeling of the power through my feet as I challenge myself to ride a little faster, steeper, deeper and each time maybe just a little more out there, always still in search of that one ‘perfect descent’.

With each new day, I learn a little more about what it takes to reach that next level. With each new descent I come closer to finding that perfect feeling and with each new turn I get closer and closer to my goal.

Of course my pursuit is endless, in 25 years of riding I think I have maybe felt that perfect, truly perfect moment maybe a dozen times. These moments are like a breath of light within your performance, its like you have just opened the door and sneaked a look at the next level. Immediately afterwards your goals are shifted your idea of what is perfect has advanced and you start to demand a little more from both yourself and the mountain and the quest goes on.

And so my initial foray in to the World of Snowsports has led me here in pursuit of my quest for the ‘perfect descent’ a journey that is never ending but which every day brings me new and greater experiences and is a whole lot of fun.

My search goes on.
